Estimate per-side, round-turn, and multi-trade futures commissions from contract quantity and entered broker, exchange, and regulatory fees.
STEP-BY-STEP
How to use this tool
- Open the current broker commission and exchange-fee schedule for the exact contract.
- Enter every per-contract per-side fee in its matching field.
- Enter whole contracts used per trade and the number of completed round turns.
- Add any fixed platform or ticket cost charged once per completed trade.
- Enter the correct tick value to see how many ticks are needed to recover fees.
- Compare the estimate with an actual statement and account separately for slippage and market-data charges.
WORKED EXAMPLE
See the calculation in context
If total per-contract per-side fees are $2.22, a two-contract trade costs $4.44 per side and $8.88 round turn. Ten completed trades cost an estimated $88.80 before slippage.
Calculation method
Per-contract per-side cost = broker + exchange/clearing + regulatory fees. Round-turn trade cost = two sides × contracts + fixed round-turn cost. Sample cost = round-turn cost × completed trades.
AVOID THESE ERRORS
Common mistakes
- Entering a quoted all-in round-turn rate as a per-side fee
- Forgetting that both entry and exit are charged
- Using micro-contract fees with a full-size contract
- Omitting exchange, clearing, or regulatory fees
- Multiplying by orders instead of completed round turns
- Ignoring slippage when evaluating a small-target strategy
FREQUENTLY ASKED
Questions and answers
What does round turn mean?
It means opening and fully closing a position. Both transaction sides are included.
Are commissions the same for every futures contract?
No. Broker, exchange, clearing, regulatory, routing, and membership rates can differ by product and account.
Does this include slippage?
No. Slippage depends on order type, liquidity, volatility, and execution and must be estimated separately.
