WORKED EXAMPLE

See the calculation in context

One 10,000-unit mini lot equals 0.10 standard lots. At about $1 per pip, a 25-pip stop estimates $25 of price risk before costs.

Calculation method

Position units = mini lots × units per mini lot. Standard-lot equivalent = units ÷ 100,000. Pip exposure = mini lots × pip value per mini lot. Estimated margin = units × price ÷ leverage.

AVOID THESE ERRORS

Common mistakes

  1. Confusing one mini lot with 0.01 standard lots
  2. Assuming every platform accepts mini-lot notation
  3. Using a $1 pip-value estimate for every pair and account currency
  4. Ignoring the symbol’s actual contract size
  5. Rounding quantity upward
  6. Ignoring costs and currency conversion
FREQUENTLY ASKED

Questions and answers

How many units are in a mini lot?

A common forex convention is 10,000 units, or 0.10 of a 100,000-unit standard lot. Verify the symbol specification.

Is a mini lot always about $1 per pip?

No. Pair structure, price, contract size, and account currency can change the pip value.

Can I enter 2.5 mini lots?

The calculator can, but the platform’s minimum size and increment determine whether that order quantity is accepted.
